'Dancing at the Crossroads' returns to Offaly to celebrate living heritage

The free community event in Clara recreates the atmosphere of the traditional Irish crossroads dances
Clara Heritage Society is inviting people of all ages to step back in time and experience one of Ireland's most cherished social traditions at the annual Dancing at the Crossroads, taking place on Friday, 24 July, from 7.00pm to 9.00pm at Lysmoyney Cross, Clara.
The free community event recreates the atmosphere of the traditional Irish crossroads dances that once brought neighbours together for an evening of music, and dancing before the advent of dance halls and modern entertainment.
This year's celebration promises to be the liveliest yet, with visitors and dancers from across the globe joining local performers to celebrate Ireland's rich musical and dancing traditions.

Music will be led by Rahan Comhaltas, whose talented musicians will fill the venue with lively jigs, reels and waltzes. Professional Irish dancers will showcase the excitement and athleticism of Irish dance before inviting everyone to take part in traditional céilí dancing. Whether you're an experienced dancer or a complete beginner, there will be plenty of opportunities to join in and enjoy the fun.
Light refreshments will be served throughout the evening.
"Dancing at the Crossroads is about much more than dancing," said a spokesperson for Clara Heritage Society. "It is about reconnecting with our heritage, bringing generations together and keeping alive an important part of Ireland's cultural traditions. We are delighted to welcome everyone to what promises to be a wonderful evening of music, friendship and community spirit."
Admission is free, and everyone is welcome. Donations in support of the ongoing heritage and cultural work of Clara Heritage Society will be gratefully accepted.
