The prolonged spell of sunny weather recently has brought families out into local parks and green spaces in their droves, but it has also increased the numbers of people drinking alcohol in public the Municipal Council for the Roscrea area heard on Monday.

Councillor Shane Lee told the meeting that he had received numerous reports from concerned parents who felt uncomfortable and left public areas in Roscrea because of people consuming alcohol.

Cllr. Lee also said electric scooters are posing a danger to pedestrians and are being used on footpaths. He called for the relevant laws to be published widely and enforced after he witnessed an elderly pedestrian narrowly avoid being knocked down and potentially seriously injured.
