Fallen trees during Storm Isha forces closure of one of Offaly's top tourist spots

Birr Castle will remain closed today to allow a clean up after trees fell in the demesne
Birr Castle demesne will remain closed today, Monday, to allow for a clean up after trees fell during Storm Isha.
A social media post from the Birr Castle Demesne X account confirmed that following Storm Isha, the demesne will remain closed to allow for the clean up operation.
"We have two large trees down which are blocking pathways, and there is also a lot of debris to clean up before we can reopen safely," it said.
The castle management said it hopes to reopen on Tuesday, and thanked the public for its patience.

Birr Castle Demesne was also closed on Sunday, January 21 due to high winds brought in by Storm Isha.
There has been disruption across Offaly in the aftermath of Storm Isha, with a fallen tree blocking a main road in Tullamore overnight and into Monday morning.
Work was undertaken on Monday morning to clear the road which is the main artery linking Tullamore and Portlaoise, close the junction of the New Road and Clonminch.
Trees have fallen across Offaly and the Midlands including at Rahan, Cloghan and Rhode.
