Fire at Tullamore railway station knocks out ticket machines and other services

A fire at Tullamore railway station has resulted in the ticket machines being out of action for well over a month.
It's understood the fire affected the communications system which links the ticket machines to the Irish Rail system.
The fire is also believed to have impaired other vital equipment. There is no ability to pay via debit or credit card at the three ticket machines.
Those who pre-booked tickets are unable to print them from the machines. In addition the intercom system on the lift is not working and staff at the station cannot issue tickets.
A statement from Barry Kenny of Irish Rail said: ''The fire was in a control room area of the station on the night of Sunday 7th May.
All Ticket vending machines, and a number of other systems including public address are not currently functioning as a result.
We expect ticket vending machines to be restored in the next few days. The ticket office is open from 05.15 to 21.00 for all services,'' he said.
