The National Transport Authority (NTA) has allocated funds to Ireland’s local authorities with a view to spending €290m on walking and cycling infrastructure in 2023 reports Edenderry based Fianna Fáil councillor Robert McDermott.

This substantial investment will fund approximately 1,200 Active Travel projects, contributing to the development of almost 1,000km of new and improved walking and cycling infrastructure across the country by 2025.

This includes the development of segregated cycle lanes and widened footpaths, new walking and cycling bridges, and new pedestrian crossings.

Cllr McDermott welcomes the Edenderry Municipal District allocation of €603,504. This will see pedestrian crossing and footpaths in Rhode. In Edenderry this will see works at junctions and expanding of cycle routes.

Cllr McDermott and Barry Cowen TD visited Sean Kellaghan and Mary Dillon from Rhode Parish Enterprise Association on Friday last to discuss plans for refurbishment works following successful grant funding.

“We were delighted to assist this group in procuring this Government funding recently,” commented Cllr McDermott.
