UNDER Crimblin Hill, the journal of the Dunkerrin Parish Historical Society, will be launched in the Obama Plaza, Moneygall, on Friday November 24th at 8pm. The volume will be launched by Michelle Hoolan.

In the latest issue of Under Crimblin Hill you can find out, among other things, why it mattered so much in the early 1880s whether Moneygall be designated a town, or “a miserable village”, the latter option being the one largely favoured by a group of concerned tenants.

You can also read about one of Australia’s most beloved actors and his Dunkerrin ancestry, and how the words of a Moneygall schoolmaster almost made it onto the silver screen. In addition, there is the fascinating tale of how a politician from the parish ended up marrying a young Russian emigré whose uncle was implicated in the assassination of Grigori Rasputin in 1916, and much, much more.

With articles which fondly recall the lives of departed members of the parish community, along with the histories of various businesses and associations within the parish, and a rich selection of archival photographs, all who have an association with Dunkerrin parish and its environs will want to obtain a copy of this new publication.

Copies of the new volume, in addition to previous volumes at a reduced price, will be on sale on the night.

Having had to launch the last volume of Under Crimblin Hill in the more restrictive social climate of Covid-19, they look forward to a memorable launch of volume 4 on Friday November 24th, with the opportunity to meet old friends, and appreciate the goodness of being able to gather together once more as a community in a convivial atmosphere. Refreshments will be served on the night.
