THE developers behind a plan for apartments on a riverbank site in Tullamore have lodged another application having previously been turned down.

In September last year Declan and Diana Rainsford were refused permission to develop 14 apartments at Church Street, across from the new Lidl store.

They sought consent for 10 two-bed apartments and four one-bed apartments, along with a retail unit.

They hoped to build the complex where two unoccupied houses at the Tullamore river end of the street are located.

Having been refused by the council planners, they now propose to lodge another application, again for 14 residential units, but without the retail unit.

In a planning notice in this week's Tullamore Tribune and Midland Tribune, the applicants say the development at 46 and 47 Church Street will include three two-bed apartments in one block, a detached two-storey two-bed townhouse in another block, and 10 apartments in a third block, which will rise to four storeys.

The original application's design statement explained: “It is apparent that very few properties engage with the Tullamore River unlike the Grand Canal to the north. The intent of the scheme is to turn towards the river and appropriate the amenity as a back drop to the private open spaces”.
