Supermarket and pharmacy form part of the plan
Planning permission has been granted for a new neighbourhood centre development in Tullamore.
Offaly Local Authority has given Cederglade Ltd the go ahead to costruct a convenience retail supermarket with ancillary off licence, cafe with external outdoor seating area, pharmacy and retail unit at Collins Lane, Tullamore.
A new link road via the roundabout to the north west of the site will also be developed along with pedestrian connections from Collins Lane.
The development will incorporate 135 surface car parking spaces which includes 104 standard spaces, and 8 accessible spaces, 7 parent and child spaces, 14 EV charging spaces and 2 click and collect spaces. There will be 26 bicycle parking spaces including provision for 2 cargo bicycle spaces; Landscaping will also form part of the plan.
The application attracted two submissions. The HSE advised that all ''necessary precautions shall be taken to control dust and rodents arising from the building work so as not to present a nuisance to occupiers of adjoining properties. All precautions shall be taken to prevent noise impact from the proposed development. ''
The second submission from Grapemont welcomed the development within Tullamore and said it ''considers that the development of a neighbourhood centre at this site should be supported.''
It continued ''We wish to bring to the Council's attention that the sequential assessment excludes any reference to the extant permission at Opportunity Site 6, (Church Road) for approximately 14,000 sq m total retail floorspace granted permission by An Bord Pleanala on May 2021, which is land zoned for Town Centre/Mixed Uses, is without constraint for commercial development and is available for development.''
