Offaly County Council has given the green light to convert a historic pub in Tullamore into a house.

Anthony Kane had sought permission from the local authority to convert the Mallet Tavern on Kilbride Street into a dwelling house.

Included in the development plans are the demolition of a single storey flat roof rear extension and the partial demolition of a storey and a half annex covered by a slate roof.

There are also plans to construct a two-storey rextension to the rear of the building as part of the restoration and alteration of the existing building. The former licenced premises is a protected structure.

Planning permission was granted with ten conditions attached. Details of the conditions have not yet been published by Offaly County Council.
