Man and woman in the Midlands facing 20 child pornography charges

The two accused appeared before Portlaoise District Court
A man and a woman appeared before Portlaoise District Court on child pornography charges.
The man (57) and woman (56) each face 20 charges of knowingly producing child pornography through Whatsapp conversations in Laois on dates between April 18, 2023 and May 10, 2023.
Detective Garda David Coughlan said the DPP had directed that the case be heard by trial on indictment. He explained that each of the accused faced 20 charges.
“They are all the same charge. They are the production of child pornography from 20 different dates,” he said.
He was asked what was the relationship between the defendants, who are co-accused but live at different addresses in Laois.
“At the time they were engaged in an extramarital affair but now there is no relationship,” said Det Coughlan.
He said there was no objection to bail but there were a number of conditions to be attached to the bail.
Judge Nicola Andrews added a “condition of bail that there be no contact between the accused.”
She granted them bail to appear again at Portlaoise District Court on October 7 for service of the book of evidence.
She imposed reporting restrictions preventing the identification of either of the accused.
