A MAN who is accused of stealing charity buckets containing donations appeared at last week's sitting of Tullamore District Court.

On December 12, 2023, Keith Kilroy (51), Room 3, Simon Community, Clontarf Road, Tullamore, is alleged to have entered Leavy's Centra, Henry Street, Tullamore, and stolen the four buckets containing around €400.

Garda Christopher McDermott said no one knew exactly how much money was in the buckets but they had been in the shop for two to three weeks and several people had donated notes to the charities which included Mary's Meals and an Autism charity.

There was approximately €400 in the buckets, he said.

David Nugent BL, said his client wanted to go to Cuan Mhuire and if he has to go to prison then he will lose his accommodation with the Simon Community, and his methadone programme.

Judge Andrew Cody remanded Mr Kilroy on bail to appear on January 3, 2024, with a number of conditions attached.
