Man in Offaly stole money using bank card found in hotel

A MAN was convicted for stealing funds from a lost bank card during last week's Tullamore Court session.

Mihail Munteanu, 30 Armstrong Grove, Clara, pleaded guilty to the offence which happened August 27, 2023 in Dunnes Stores, Bridge Centre, Tullamore.

He was charged with “stealing property” on two occasions, “to wit Funds from the IP bank a/c to the value of €29 and €35.”

Sergeant Richard Thornton told Judge Andrew Cody that the injured party, a man in a wheelchair, had unknowingly dropped his card in a hotel in the town.

“The defendant found it and decided to use it.”

He said Munteanu had no previous convictions. The court was told that the defendant subsequently returned all of the money to the injured party.

Judge Cody convicted and fined €300.
