The Birr man is charged with handling stolen construction tools

The case of a man accused of handling stolen property was adjourned to July 2 next when he must either plead guilty or be given a date for a hearing.

John Paul McDonagh (37) of Presentation Place, Birr, is charged with handling €5,000 worth of various types of construction tools knowing the property was stolen.

He is also charged with allowing himself to be carried in a vehicle knowing the vehicle was being used without the consent of the owner.

Solicitor Aisling Maloney said the majority of the tools had been recovered and the injured party had been fully compensated by a co-accused.

Judge Cody remanded Mr McDonagh on continuing bail to July 2 next and reserved a hearing date for November 18. Ms Maloney made an application for legal aid as her client was on disability.
