Tullamore ladies footballers enjoyed Meath blitz

TULLAMORE Gaelic for Mothers & Others Club was formed in 2019 as an enhancement to Tullamore Ladies Gaelic Football Club.

The Gaelic4Mothers&Others initiative, sponsored by Sports Direct, is an innovative way to introduce mothers and other women to playing Ladies Gaelic Football. Mothers often drop their kids to training and call back to collect them, but the Ladies Gaelic Football Association wants to change that.

The Gaelic4Mothers&Others initiative sees women playing Ladies Gaelic Football in a fun, non-competitive and social environment. Gaelic4Mothers&Others provides an opportunity for women to get their recommended weekly exercise in a fun way while meeting other mothers in the area.

The initiative has proved hugely popular with women of all ages and has taken off in all 32 counties with success stories popping up all over the country, and most recently in International units.

The Tullamore LGFA Gaelic 4 Mothers & Others ladies delivered a gritty and determined performance at the North Leinster Blitz in Simonstown Gaels, Co.Meath over the weekend across four tightly contested matches against Westmeath Ballymore G4MO, Longford Legan G4MO,  Louth Dreadnots G4MO and Meath Summerhill G4MO.

With pride, teamwork, and no shortage of skill on display, the team battled fiercely throughout the day — showcasing their growing cohesion and spirit against some of the toughest Leinster G4MO clubs and in less desirable ground conditions in the torrential rain.

Tullamore G4MO got off to a flying start in their opener, notching a well-earned victory with slick passing and clinical finishing. A dominant midfield showing helped set the tempo early, while the defence stood firm to see out the win against Ballymore G4MO.

Tullamore G4MO, then locked horns with a physical and tactically sharp Longford team Legan G4MO. After exchanging scores and momentum swings throughout, with the final whistle confirming a hard-fought draw.

The third game saw Tullamore G4MO play against a stonger Meath Summerhill team that resulted in a narrow defeat after they missed some goal oppportunities.

Saving the best for last, Tullamore G4MO closed out the day with another composed and confident win over the Louth team The Dreadnots G4MO rounding off the blitz on a high note. Although scores were not recorded in the spirit of the 'non-competitive' blitz, Coach Dave Kavanagh, former Kildare and Offaly footballer was keeping a close eye on tactics and ensuring all participants got playing time. Well done to the Tullamore G4MO team, particularly those who never played GAA and debuted on Saturday!

Speaking after the games, coach Dave Kavanagh praised the team’s resilience: "It was a great day, great effort by all the ladies and some lovely football played. A very well organised blitz and played in the right spirit. We have a new assistant coach from Meath, Legend Colm O' Rourke - he set out our strategy but can only make training every second week.”

Tullamore G4MO left the North Leinster Blitz with heads held high — and eyes firmly set on building from here. Tullamore G4MO would like to thank Simonstown Gaels for hosting a super event, which encouraged great enjoyment and a fun day out for all participate.

If you wish to join Tullamore G4MO for a bit of fun and activity, the club would be delighted! All new members are welcome- no GAA experience necessary! Message our facebook page or Register on Foireann! Training is on Thursday's 8pm in Dr.Kellys Field.
