Motorists parking in taxi rank impacting business in Tullamore

Confusion in relation to markings at a taxi rank in Tullamore means motorists are parking there and preventing taxis from doing their jobs.

At the July meeting of Tullamore Municipal District,Councillor Aoife Masterson said there was a problem with demarcation.

''Old habits die hard and people are still parking there when they are not supposed to, she said. ''Several taxi drivers have got on to me about that, it is impacting their income because they can't park there,'' she said.

''Will there be any plans to make the parking outside AIB just a bit more distinctive and set it apart from the other general parking on the street?'' she asked.

Councillor Declan Harvey said he thought motorists were allowed to park at different times during the day.

A taxi sign is clearly visible on the street but cars are parked there every day.

Senior Executive Engineer, John Connelly said it is a matter of enforcement.
