NENAGH Municipal District held a minute's silence in memory of Vicky Phelan during its November meeting.

Cllr Hughie McGrath, Cathaoirleach, said he wanted to open the meeting by expressing his condolences to the family and friends of Vicky Phelan.

“I didn't know Vicky,” he remarked, “but we all know the incredibly good work that she did for the women of Ireland. I propose that we hold a minute's silence in her memory.”

Cllr Fiona Bonfield said Vicky was greatly admired by every woman for her sincerity, her courage and for fighting for better treatment of women by the healthcare profession.

Cllr Phyll Bugler said Vicky was a marvellous, inspirational woman whose courage was immense. “We are all so grateful to Vicky for everything she did for the women of Ireland.”

Cllr Seamus Morris said Vicky fought hard against the shutting down of information. “She demanded the information be publicly known. These non-disclosure, gagging orders, practised by the HSE shouldn't be allowed to happen. She refused to sign the non-disclosure order. It took considerable courage.”

The meeting then stood for a minute's silence.
