New pilot shopfront enhancement scheme launched for two Offaly streets
Two streets in Offaly’s capital town have been chosen as the first ones due to be enhanced under a new pilot scheme.
The Pilot Shopfront Enhancement Scheme, an Offaly County Council initiative, aims to enhance the visual appeal and vitality of towns and villages across the county.
It has now been announced that Columcille Street and William Street, both in Tullamore town centre, are the first areas to be identified for the pilot project.
Offaly County Council in partnership with Team Tullamore, says it is investing in the future of Tullamore town centre with the new Pilot Shopfront Enhancement Scheme.
The scheme will support businesses on Columcille Street and William Street to improve shopfronts and building facades.
The local authority says this will help to create a more vibrant, attractive and welcoming town centre for everyone.
As part of the scheme, businesses in the designated area will be contacted directly.

The council said a town centre survey undertaken in 2026 identified these streets as a priority area for the pilot scheme where investment in shopfront improvements would deliver significant impact and improve the visual appearance of this central area.
“Investment in this area will also complement completed public realm improvements along these streets and enhance the visual appearance and attractiveness of this central street within the town,” the council outlined.
Applicants are invited to apply for a Shopfront Enhancement Grant which will cover 50% of eligible works, to a maximum grant of €2,500
There are number of qualifying criteria including that applicants must have a street facing premises within the qualifying area.
Businesses must also operate independently and not as part of a franchise or chain.
