Offaly man Michael Hough has been cast as Eli James in the Netflix reboot of Little House on the Prairie.

The Banagher man is the brother of Ger Hough, current proprietor of their famous family pub, JJ Houghs. Michael has previously made appearances in the pub's now infamous Christmas adverts.

He announced the news of his casting in the remake of the iconic US TV show on social media, saying: "From the bogs of West Offaly to the frontier plains of the West…Honoured to join the cast of Little House on the Prairie, and to bring Eli James to life. Some squad."

Michael has previously starred in Chapelwaite and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. The news of his casting was reported exclusively by Deadline, who also shared the names of some of his co-stars.

Luke Bracey, who previously starred in Hacksaw Ridge, will play Charles Ingalls while Jocko Sims will play Dr George Tann.

Mary Holland will play Jemma James, the wife of Eli James, Michael Hough's character. In the show, Eli James works on the railroad and his welcoming to new arrivals.

Filming for the show began in Canada last month but a release date for the show has not yet been confirmed.
