Offaly man said his 88 year old father was driving car caught speeding

A MAN appeared at last week's Tullamore District Court on a summons for speeding.
Padraig Langan, Newtown Horseleap, was accused of driving at 60 kilometres an hour in a 50 kilometre zone at Church Street, Clara on May 11, 2022.
Sgt James O'Sullivan said a penalty notice was sent to Mr Langan by registered post and he failed to pay.
Solicitor Patrick Martin said Mr Langan had nominated his father as the driver.
Sgt O'Sullivan said the nomination had been received but there was no payment. Mr Langan claimed his father, who is 88, was driving the car.
Judge Andrew Cody put the case back to February 15, 2023 for his father to appear in court on that date. He said he was very skeptical that an 88 year old was driving that fast.
