Offaly motorist had 'bloodshot eyes and slurred speech' when stopped by gardai

An Offaly man was convicted of drink driving during a recent sitting of Tullamore District Court sitting.

Before the court was Dylan Murdock, 11 Scurragh, Birr.

At 1.10am on September 7 last, he was stopped at a Garda checkpoint on Railway Road Birr and a breath test showed there was 73 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath.

"Mr Murdock's eyes were bloodshot and his speech was slurred,” said Sergeant Brendan Kearns.

The defending solicitor Patrick Martin said his client is a single man and suffers from ADHD and other issues.

“He is financially of limited means. On this night he drove the car for a short distance to get something.”

Judge Cody convicted and fined €100 and disqualified from driving for three years.
