A number of secondary school students from Offaly have been praised for taking time to tend to a number of overgrown graves in their local cemetery.

Fine Gael councillor Noel Cribbin took to social media to hail the 6th year students from St Mary's Secondary School.

In his post, he said: "You can't beat youth, big thanks to Sarah and her 6th year students from St Mary's Secondary in Edenderry who are going to spend a few Thursday afternoons tidying up old graves in St Mary’s Cemetery."

He said the graves belong to people "who sadly have no one left to keep them."

He explained: "This is part of a project with Edenderry Tidy Towns and St Mary’s Secondary school."
