Offaly takeaway that posed 'significant risk' to public health ordered to close

Inadequate pest control procedures were among the reasons listed for the closure of the take away in Offaly
A takeaway in Offaly was served with a Closure Order by the HSE in March for a series of breaches of food safety rules.
Super Marios on High Street in Tullamore was served with the order on March 27 following an inspection. The Closure Order was subsequently lifted on April 3
The report says the Closure Order was served due to 'persistent and recurring failure to comply with the food safety legislation' and the failure of the food business operator to effectively address non-compliances to prevent recurrence.
A number of contraventions were found during the inspection and were listed in the report.
A drain in the floor in the potato peeling/chipping area was overflowing with foul water at the time of inspection causing back flow and ponding of foul water in this food preparation area.
The report says the overflow of foul water into the food preparation area is a contamination risk and as such poses a risk to
food safety.
The report says that the food worker who was solely responsible for operating the food business at the time of this inspection had not completed or been provided with food hygiene training or instruction in food hygiene. It added that the food worker did not demonstrate an understanding of basic, minimum food safety requirements.
It also noted that at the time of inspection there was no water supply to the cold tap at the wash hand basin and hot water was found to be extremely hot at 65 degrees centigrade. The report said this water is too hot to safely use and ensure thorough, routine hand washing.
The rear external door which opens directly into the potato peeling/chipping area was open at the time of inspection, allowing possible pest entry directly into a food preparation area. There was no pest screen on the external door. The report says that inadequate pest control procedures poses a risk of allowing the ingress of pests leading to a risk to food safety and consumers.
The report said that complete and accurate documented allergen information was not available to consumers which posed a significant risk to the health of consumers.
