Offaly woman on European Championship winning Irish pitch and putt team

Great double for Ireland
A TULLAMORE woman was on the Irish ladies pitch and putt side that captured the European Championship last weekend.
Amy Galvin, a young Tullamore Pitch and Putt star, played alongside Chrissy Sheedy and Tara Dillon, both of Ryston Pitch and Putt Club, Kildare, as Ireland defeated Catalonia in the final at Lucan.
It was a great few days for Ireland as they also won the mens' championship. Ireland defeated Catalonia in their three matches in the final with Galvin having a 5 and 4 win over Conchi Carballo. Earlier, she had a 2 and 1 win over the same player in the foursomes and singles with Sheedy and Dillon having a comprehensive 7 and 5 win over Marta Cucurull and Anna Selva.
In Friday's strokeplay competition, Galvin and Chrissy Sheedy both posted 54 as they grabbed an early lead with 108, three strokes ahead of Catalonia.
A brilliant underage player, Galvin has continued her progress into adult ranks. Irish Girls Strokeplay champion in 2012 and 2014, she won last year's National Ladies Matchplay Championship final. Currently ranked three in Ireland, she reached the 2025 National Matchplay final in Erry, losing out to her Irish team mate Chrissie Sheedy.
