Offaly woman receives two month prison sentence for a number of offences

An Offaly woman received a two months prison sentence for a number of offences during a recent sitting of Tullamore Court.
Jennifer Murphy, Main Street, Daingean, was before the court for driving with no insurance and no driving licence.
She was also charged with possession of cannabis, on Main Street, Daingean on August 23, 2021. On August 23, 2021, on Main Street Daingean she was charged with "opening the door of an unmarked Garda patrol car and taking from it a handbag containing five deals of suspected cocaine which had been seized by the Gardai.”
On the same date and same place she was summonsed for speaking with “a youth on numerous occasions and Gardaí believe she encouraged him to smash the back passenger window and damage the boot of an unmarked patrol car so that she could retrieve an item which had been seized from car.”
The defending solicitor said his client is 37 years of age. “She has had a difficult life during which she has been living in fear,” he pointed out.
“She drove without insurance or a driving licence because she was very worried about her son who had slept rough for a number of nights, and she went to pick him up. Her children are in care. She has been offered accommodation by her parents. During her time in prison her mental health has suffered. She is willing to do rehab.”
Judge Andrew Cody pointed out that Ms Murphy had had several chances but hadn't taken them. This was her fourth no insurance conviction, he said. He convicted and sentenced to two months imprisonment.
