Former Tullamore Town player on mark as St Kevin's see off Linfield

FORMER Tullamore Town player Daniel Holton played a starring role as top Dublin club St Kevin's completed an Under 15 trophy treble at the Lurgan Town Arena last Saturday.

The 15-year-old scored the opener for Kevin's against Northern Ireland kingpins Linfield in a challenge Cup Winners Cup where the reigning Schoolboys FAI Cup champions and Northern Ireland Youth FA Cup holders faced off against each other to determine the top team on the island.

Holton's strike paved the way for a 3-1 triumph over their Belfast opponents, thereby ensuring St Kevin's added the coveted all-island silverware at Under 15 level to their Dublin District Schoolboys League Premier Division title and the SFAI national cup.

The national cup was an odyssey in itself as prior to seeing off Templeogue United 5-0 in the decider, they had travelled as far away as Killarney to beat Mastergeeha FC in the round of 32, before then knocking out top Kilkenny outfit Evergreen.

Holton (pictured below left) netted St Kevin's third in the SFAI Cup final, chesting down a poor Templeogue clearance, controlling with his right foot and then stabbing home with his left. He then grabbed the fourth, taking down a long ball lobbed from his own defence and getting beyond two defenders before applying the finish.placeholder image

Holton has been a leading light for Kevin's all season and that goal in the match against Linfield – where he gathered the ball on the D, took a few touches as he moved to the right and then guided it right-footed into the bottom left corner – was his 50th of the campaign in all competitions.
