Offaly's Tom opens 'Sun, Moon and Star's exhibition

THIS Wednesday, December 6, will see the exciting launch of award winning Offaly photographer Tom O‘Hanlon’s 'The Sun, Moon and Stars' photography exhibition at Birr Library at 6.30pm.
The exhibition will feature images of celestial bodies such as the sun, moon, and stars, with many images captured right here in the heart of the midlands.
The exhibition will be on display for the month of December and all are welcome to attend and enjoy these wonderful images.
Earlier this year Tom has his image of the moon rising over Hook Head Lighthouse in County Wexford shortlisted in the prestigious astrophotography competition, Royal Museum's Greenwich “Astronomy Photographer of the Year.”
Now in its 15th year, it is the biggest astrophotography competition in the world, and in 2023 received thousands of entries from 64 countries around the globe.
Tom's image, Moonrise Over Hook Head was displayed in an exhibition at the National Maritime Museum in London, alongside a selection of exceptional shortlisted images while also featuring in the competition’s official book, published by Collins in association with Royal Museums Greenwich, which will be available exclusively on site and online at Royal Museums Greenwich.
Commenting on his success in the competition Tom said he was "delighted to have my image featured in the competition, it's an incredible honour to be shortlisted amongst some of the worlds very best astrophotographers, Its an image that took a considerable amount of planning and thankfully I was able to capture it exactly as I had planned."
Tom is a freelance photographer whose work appears on a regular basis in the Tullamore and Midland Tribunes.
