Plans for leading Scandinavian retailer to set up in Tullamore put on hold

Plans for a major Scandinavian retailer to set up in Tullamore have been put on hold for now.

JYSK Limited, applied for planning permission for the store at the site of the former Argos store in the Tullamore Retail Park but Offaly County Council has sought further information before making a decision.

According to the details unveiled, JYSK will seek change of use from existing catalogue retail store to retail warehouse.

The Argos store in Tullamore closed in 2023 along with all the other retailer's outlets in the Republic of Ireland.

If approved, the plans will involve alterations to the internal layout including the removal of the back of house office areas and an increase to the front of house retail area.  Internal alterations will also include the provision of a new lift and replacement staircase.

Offaly County Council has asked for a revised floor plan to be submitted to show that the retail floor space complies with Development Management Standard DMS59-Retail Warehousing of the Offaly County Development Plan 2021-2027 and Section 4.11.2 of the 2012 Retail Planning Guidelines.

A decision is now due on the plans in January.
