Plans for new apartments in the centre of Tullamore blocked

Plans for new apartments in the centre of Tullamore have been refused.
Offaly County Council has refused planning for the apartments on High Street in the town.
The proposal by applicant Emmett McEvoy was for the construction of four two storey one bedroom apartment units, bike racks, boundary treatment and all associated site works, at High Street Tullamore.
In giving its reasons for the refusal of planning permission, Offaly County Council said the layout was congested and said there was insufficient space to accommodate a reasonable amount of quality public open space. It added that Offaly County Council considered that the proposed development would result in over-development of the site. It also said the development would 'seriously injure the amenities of the area' and would seriously injure the amenities of the area and those of future residents.
It also raised concerns of windows in the proposed development would overlook adjoining properties.
