ON Sunday, October 18, a tree was planted in the town park, in memory of the former minister of Tullamore Presbyterian Church, Girvan McKay and as part of the 40th anniversary of Crann.

The event was largely organised by Gaelan Elliffe, Shane Murray and Mark Sheehy who kindly donated the Scots pine. There was a short ceremony with a biography of Girvan, read by his wife, Maire McKay, music played by their son, Conall McKay related to the many countries Girvan had lived in, poetry and sayings he liked read by Somhairle McKay and Jo Rodgers, and a blessing from Rev. William Hayes with other members of Tullamore clergy in attendance.

Present were friends and neighbours and family and members of various societies Girvan and Maire were associated with, including Crann, the Tullamore Gardening Club, Tullamore Astronomical Society, Tullamore Ramblers, Tullamore Historical and Archaeological Society, Bio-diversity Group, Tullamore Presbyterian Church among others.

The beautiful plaque was designed and made by Mauricio Martino of Heartworks.ie.

Sincere thanks to those who took part and who came.

Thanks also to Sean McKenna and Rev. William Hayes for the photos.
