A MAN who stole money from a car parked at Tullamore railway station, was described as having been opportunistic rather than malicious at last week's district court.

Rainis Koovit. (27) Apartment 5, 95 Hollybrook Road, Clontarf, Dublin, was homeless at the time when he took €49 from the car, his solicitor told Judge Andrew Cody.

Mr Koovit, who had 102 previous convictions, 50 of those for theft, is currently in custody. A ten month prison sentence had been imposed in May.

Judge Cody sentenced Mr Koovit to one month in prison to commence when his current sentence expires.
