Prison sentence for man who was verbally abusive in supermarket in Offaly

A DEFENDANT with an address in Birr, Sylvester Paszkowski, 11 Castle Mall, was convicted of engaging in threatening and verbally abusive behaviour during last week's Tullamore Court session.
Mr Paszkowski is currently serving a prison sentence and he connected to the Court sitting via video link.
Sergeant Brendan Kearns told the court that the incident happened in Buckley's SuperValu, Main St, Birr on the 4th of May last.
“The defendant was verbally abusive towards the injured party,” remarked the Sergeant, “which left him feeling shaken afterwards.”
Mr Paszkowski had 20 previous convictions, including convictions for theft and threatening behaviour.
The defending solicitor Aisling Maloney said her client is a young man with addiction issues, and he was homeless at the time.
“His current prison sentence has been a salutary lesson for him,” she commented, “and when he leaves prison on the 9th of April he is determined to turn his life around. His family is here today in court in support of him. Another factor in his favour is he took his medicine and didn't appeal the sentence.”
Judge Susan Fay convicted and sentenced to a month's imprisonment, to run concurrently with his present sentence.
