A stunning and record equaling third round has fired Shane Lowry right into contention at the PGA Championship.

The Offaly golfer shot an amazing nine under par 62 for his third round equalling the low score ever shot at any major. He is only the fourth player in the history of the Majors to achieve the feat with over 130,000 rounds played. Xander Schauffele twice, Rickie Fowler and Branden Grace are the only other golfers to ever shoot a 62 at a Major.

He had a putt at the last to set a new Major record of 61 but his putt ended up just to the side of the hole. While that putt stayed out of the holed, he sunk an astonishing 392 feet of putts during his three rounds so far including 14 putts over 10 feet.

After opening with two bogeys in his first round on Thursday, Shane has battled back and is now 13 under after 54 holes.

With a number of players still to finish their third rounds, Shane is in a tie for second place and will be in the hunt for his second Major on Sunday.

MORE TO FOLLOW ON CONCLUSION OF ROUND THREE.
