SHOCKING: Firework thrown from car at group of people waiting for a bus to Tullamore

Gardai have appealed for information after a firework was thrown at a group of people waiting for a bus to Tullamore.

The incident, which terrified a woman waiting at the bus stop, occurred late on the evening of Saturday, August 26 in Portlaoise.

It’s understood the firework was thrown from a passing car at the people waiting for a bus near Supermacs in the centre of Portlaoise.

The firework landed in a shopping bag belonging to a woman who was waiting on a bus to Tullamore. The woman, who is in her late 20s, was said to be so badly shaken by the incident that she caught a taxi home which cost her €70.

A friend who asked not to be named described the incident as “completely outrageous.” She said the firework was thrown from a VW Bora type car with complete disregard for where it might land.

The woman had been shopping and her purchases were damaged by the firework, the friend said.

“She felt very much that she needed to report it because she felt it would happen to someone else,” the woman explained.

Portlaosie Gardai are appealing to any witnesses or anyone with information to contact them on 057 867 4100.
