'Someone is going to be killed' - Residents raise serious concerns over 'insane' speeding on road in Tullamore

'Insane' speeding on a busy road in Tullamore is going to result in someone getting killed.
That's according to residents on the Clara Road in the town who have again highlighted the issue of speeding on the road.
Concerned residents have contacted the Offaly Express to raise their concerns with one man starkly stating that 'someone is going to get killed' unless the issue is dealt with by Offaly County Council and the gardai.
The man commented, "you have to see it to believe the speed some cars come in this road. It's nothing short of outrageous. Some cars go by that fast, you can't even see the registration. My real fear is for people using the pedestrian crossing at Dolan's Shop. People coming across from Arden View are taking their lives in their hands. One day I saw a car screech to a stop as it flew around the corner when there was a child crossing the road. It was a near miss but it might not be as lucky the next time."
Another local resident who spoke to the Offaly Express stated, "we raised this issue before and for a few weeks the gardai were there in the mornings and evenings and it calmed down a bit. For a while the council also had the speeding monitor up but that was useless as the speeders just ignored it. I'm surprised it could even register some of the speeds. You see the speed van out on roads around the county where it's not really needed. If they put it on the Clara Road near Maple Grove for a week, you'd make a fortune. They know they are not going to get caught on this road so they go as fast as they want."
He added that the council needed to take 'a long hard look' at putting traffic calming measures on the road to try and slow cars down.
"I don't like speed bumps myself but the way some lunatics drive on this road, I don't see any other option. Are we waiting for an accident to happen before we do something? It's just insane speed and some insane overtaking too. You don't even feel safe on the footpath with the speed some cars go down this road."
