Talented young soccer team in Offaly celebrate double success

A talented young soccer team in Offaly celebrated double success winning the MSL U-12 Boys Plate Final to add to their league title in a thrilling decider in Frank McEvoy Park on Saturday.

In the superb surrounds of Killeigh's home ground, Birr Town took on a very strong Mullingar Athletic Tigers side in the final and came out on top by 1-0. It was as tight and thrilling a final as the scoreline suggests with the Birr side defending superbly as a team in the closing stages to hold on for the win after taking the lead midway through the first half

The team had wrapped up their MSL U-12 division two weeks earlier after a hard fought campaign. Over the season they won 14 games, drew one and lost just once. However it was far from a runaway league success as their resilience was highlighted by the fact that six of their victories came by just one goal in a very evenly matched division.

Big thanks goes to the management team of Mick McGrath, Peter Canham and Bob Byrnes who worked tirelessly with the team all year.
