Treasured Offaly shop front will be retained during renovation work

A treasured shop front in Offaly will be retained during renovation work.

The Birr & Midlands Chapter of the Irish Georgian Society told Offaly Live that it is 'delighted' that restoration work is presently taking place at Doolin's Arcade in Market Square, Birr.

“Doolin's is one of our treasured, iconic shop fronts in Birr,” a spokesperson for the Chapter said.

“The new owners are doing mighty renovation work inside and out. We asked County Offaly's Chief Architect, Rachel McKenna if the old shop front has preservation status, for we would all be in tears if the sign is in any way destroyed.”

Ms McKenna replied that it does have preservation status. She said it's on the County Council's 'Record of Protected Structures'.
