Funds will provide extra comfort for residents of the facility

TULLAMORE Lions Club presented a cheque for €25,000 to Riada House Comfort Fund to provide extra comfort for the residents of the facility.

The presentation was made possible following a very successful golf outing and raffle organised by the Club and supported by a large number of businesses and individuals from the town and its environs, held in New Forest Golf Club last month.

Riada House Comfort Committee comprises a group of volunteers who got together during the 1990's . Made up of relatives of residents, staff members and members of the community, it provides much needed funds to provide extra comforts for the residents.

Over the years the Comfort Fund has provided pressure relieving mattresses, special chairs and armchairs, a Clavinova piano, TV sets, a sensory garden and furniture and art therapy classes for the residents. These items have to be replaced from time to time, so fundraising efforts are ongoing.

Other sources of funding include annual flag days and the sale of CD's launched by local artists and students of Tullamore College.

Mr Peter Kelly, chairperson, said his committee were very grateful to the Lions Club for their efforts in organising the golf classic and the raffle.

"This €25,000 cheque, the largest we have received for some time, is very much appreciated and will make a significant difference to the comfort and enjoyment of the residents of Riada House, " he said.

Paul Bell, Tullamore Lions Club, who was chairman of the Project, said the Club was honoured to be in a position to help Riada House.

He thanked all the teams and individuals who took part in the Golf Classic and the raffle which made the presentation possible.

Last year, the club organised a very successful Golf Classic which raised £30,000 for the newly formed Offaly Parkinsons Group.
