A MAN who threw Coca Cola at a female member of staff at Supermacs was ordered to pay compensation to the woman at last week's district court.

Rocky McDonagh (21) of Cloncollig, Tullamore, was charged with assaulting the woman at 1am on May 4 last.

Mr McDonagh had been intoxicated on the premises and dropped his plate of food on the ground. He demanded that it be replaced and when it wasn't he threw a cup of Coca Cola at the victim hitting her on the shoulder.

Mr McDonagh had three previous convictions. His solicitor said his client, who was pleading guilty, was normally very careful around alcohol but on this night he took more than he should. He was very apologetic and was a very nice young man.

Judge Cody asked if the member of staff would say he was a nice young man. He said the victim doesn't deserve to meet thugs like this. This lady goes out to earn money to support her family, adding that he wouldn't tolerate it. He ordered Mr McDonagh to pay €500 to the injured party.

His solicitor made an application for legal aid for his client. Judge Cody remarked that he had plenty of money to go out and get paralytic drunk.

The solicitor said Mr McDonagh was on disability. Judge Cody granted legal aid adding it was only because of Mr McDonagh's willingness to plead guilty.

He adjourned the case to September 18 for compensation of €500 to be paid.
