“I'm delighted all the hard work paid off and the weather held up.”

The comments of Tullamore Show site owner, Johnny Butterfield on Sunday morning last as he mingled among the thousands of visitors and exhibitors to the country's premier agricultural show.

“I want to compliment all the people who put so much hard work into making the show what it is . . .it's an unbelievable achievement,” he outlined.

Mr Butterfield said it was also a great achievement for the agriculture industry despite the huge difficulties it faced.

“People don't appreciate the fact that Irish farmers and country people produce the best food in the world and in quantities to feed many times our population.”

He continued: In the face of a growing world population farmers should be able to continue to do that and not be impeded by rules and regulations imposed by those who don't understand.”
