Tullamore teen wins Canoeing Ireland award

CANOEIST Moira Scott from Tullamore has won a Community Impact Award at the Canoeing Ireland awards, an event to celebrate athletes achievement throughout the year.
Celebrated at Dunboyne Castle last Friday November 18, Moira along with her project team and Teen Connect won under the category Community Impact Award.
Teen Connect was set up by a group of teenage girls to help promote and retain teenage girls in paddling sports. The girls worked together from September 2021 last year to June 2022. A group of 7 teenage girls were selected from all over Ireland to create the team, by process of application.
They organised local regional and national events which were a huge success. During the course of the year they attended both zoom and in person every second week to learn about advertising, budgeting, videoing and organising events.
Moira is a member of Tullamore canoe club and has paddled with them for over 8 years.
This project was done in connection with Moira's transition year in Gallen community school Ferbane.
