Uisce Éireann expect the repair works to be completed later today

Uisce Éireann crews are working to repair a burst watermain and restore water supply to customers in an Offaly town today, Wednesday, July 8.

The repairs on the burst watermain are being carried out in Birr with residents in Emmet Street, Burkes Hill, Sandymount, Pound Street, Glebe Street, Birr town and the surrounding areas all affected by the incident.

Uisce Éireann's James Joyce, Water Operations Manager for the region, has assured customers that every effort is being made to restore a full water supply as quickly as possible. "We understand the inconvenience of an unplanned outage, and we thank customers for their support while our works continue."

Uisce Éireann say that repairs are expected to be completed later today, and updates will be provided as works progress. Typically, it takes two to three hours following repairs for normal supply to be restored to all customers affected by an unplanned outage.

However, it may take longer for normal supply to be restored to customers at the end of the network or on higher ground as the system recharges.

Traffic management will also be in place and will be clearly signposted in order to ensure the safety of the crews carrying out the repairs to the burst and the safety of the public.
