Uninsured man banned as car abandoned on Offaly road after collision

Fines totalling €1,000 imposed at Tullamore District Court along with two-year disqualification from driving
A CAR was abandoned by its driver after a collision on Church Road in Tullamore, the local District Court was told.
Branson Donoghue (26), Old Post Office, Main Street, Clara, admitted hit and run offences and uninsured driving on October 19 last year.
Sergeant Brendan Kearns said Mr Donoghue admitted the following day at Tullamore Garda Station that he had been driving the abandoned vehicle.
John O'Dwyer, BL, defending, told Judge Andrew Cody the driver had no previous convictions and he had been using his friend's vehicle at the time.
A single man with no children, he had broken up with his girlfriend and was “not himself” when the incident occurred.
Mr O'Dwyer said Mr Donoghue apologised.
Judge Cody imposed a €500 fine with a two-year disqualification for uninsured driving, plus a €250 fine for having no driving licence and another €250 fine for a hit and run offence.
