WATCH: Terrifying moment Offaly F3 star Alex Dunne smashed off the track in Melbourne

Offaly F3 Star Alex Dunne had a terrifying moment in F3 free practice in Melbourne overnight when he was smashed off the track.

Dunne momentarily blocked Bulgarian driver Nicola Toslov but on the next straight Toslov appeared to smash into Dunne putting him into the barriers.

The Sky Sports commentators described it as 'incredibly dangerous driving' but somehow Toslov was only handed a three place grid penalty by the stewards who deemed that the collision was 'unintended' even though Toslov admitted driving towards Dunne 'to highlight his presence'.

Quite how swerving violently and smashing someone off the road was 'unintended', only the stewards can explain.

After his car was repaired, Alex Dunne qualified in 17th place.

The F3 Sprint Race is on tonight at midnight on Sky Sports F1 with the Feature Race ilive on Saturday night at 10pm on the same channel.
