'What is rare is wonderful': May bush tradition preserved in west Offaly area
"An rud is annamh is iontach - what is rare is wonderful!"
A decorated May bush in Clononymore, Shannon Harbour to welcome in the month of May and the start of summer.
This is an example of an old Irish countryside custom of the past which has now almost disappeared.
The photograph was submitted to the Tribune by reader, Marty Guinan, whose photographs regularly appear in the newspaper.
Explained Marty: "It's a bit of Irish tradition, a bit of nostalgia for the older readers, a bit of knowledge for the younger generation."
