A mother of three who was caught stealing from supermarkets on three occasions has been fined.

Neta Anghel (25) of Mullaghavorneen, Longford pleaded guilty to the offences in April and May 2024.

The court heard that on Wednesday, April 3, 2024 at 1.30pm she entered SuperValu, Hazelwood and hid €70 worth of coffee in her skirt and passed all points of purchase and made no effort to pay.

The second and third offences took place on May 18, 2024.

At 2.30pm Ms Anghel entered Aldi, Athlone Road, Longford and placed seven lamb chops valued at €62 .93 into her skirt and left the premises, later that day she returned to the supermarket and took more groceries to the value of €65.52.

When Gardaí caught the defendant she co-operated.

Ms Anghel was previously convicted for theft at Roscommon Circuit Court and received a three month suspended sentence.

Sgt Mahon informed Judge Owens that Ms Anghel had not come to any Garda attention since.

Solicitor Frank Gearty said the Gardaí very kindly went to and persuaded Ms Anghel to go back to the shop and pay for the coffee which she belatedly did.

Judge Owens imposed a €200 fine with six months to pay and warned her she had "used all of her opportunities".
