BYD’s new Ti 7 aims for SUV glory with UK arrival

Plug-in hybrid model is priced from £47,995.
BYD has introduced a new challenger to the Land Rover Defender with its plug-in hybrid Ti 7.
Priced at £47,995, the new SUV gets a plug-in hybrid setup which combines a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with an electric motor and battery for a total output of 402bhp and a resulting 0-60mph time of 4.5 seconds.
Despite this performance, the Ti 7 will also manage a claimed electric-only range of up to 74 miles.

As with other BYD models, the Ti 7 comes with a high level of standard equipment, including a 15.6-inch infotainment system with all key media and navigation functions, dual fast wireless smartphone charging pads and even an in-car fridge for keeping drinks and food cool on the go. A 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster behind the steering wheel relays all key information back to the driver, too.
On the outside, the Ti 7 gets classic off-roader touches, including 20-inch alloy wheels with boxy wheelarch extensions, while slim headlights and a large front bumper section add to the car’s impactful appearance.

In terms of practicality, the Ti 7 offers seating for up to seven people, while boot space stands at 126 litres in seven-seater mode, 970 litres in five-seater configuration or 1,830 litres with all rows of seats folded flat.
BYD says that it will be releasing full specification details for the Ti 7 ‘in due course’ but that those interested can pre-order the car for £500 which is matched by a £500 contribution from BYD. First deliveries are expected in January next year.
