Boy, 14, killed in road crash

A 14-year-old boy has died after he was hit by a car on a bridge.

The crash happened on the A76 as it crosses Cessnock Water near Hurlford, East Ayrshire, at around 5.10pm on Wednesday.

Police said the 14-year-old pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man driving the car, a Vauxhall Corsa, and his two passengers were checked over by paramedics but did not need to go to hospital.

Police are appealing for information about the crash.

Sergeant Brian Simpson, from road policing, said: “Our thoughts remain with the family and we are providing them with support as our inquiries continue to establish the full circumstances of this incident.

The road was closed for investigations for several hours following the incident.
