ESB map shows huge extent of power outages still in Ireland after Storm Eowyn

The ESB's Powercheck map shows the staggering extent of outages in Ireland almost a week after Storm Eowyn battered the country.

At the peak, over 700,000 premises were without power and while power has been restored to many areas, there are still a huge number of outages across the country.

Counties on the west coast from Clare to Donegal remain badly hit as do areas in Sligo, Roscommon, Leitrim, Longford, Westmwath Cavan, Roscommon, Meath and Louth.

The ESB's powercheck.ie allows people to check on power outages in their area and usually gives and estimated time for power to return.

However the scale of the devastation caused by Storm Eowyn means that thousands of people possibly are still without power.

Power outages are also caused serious disruptions to water supplies in some parts of the country.

Storm Eowyn brought record bring wind speeds with a gust of 183kph recorded during the height of the storm.
