AA Ireland have released updated price changes for petrol and diesel and have shared tips on how to save money on fuel

AA Ireland’s June 2025 review is in and it shows yet another rise to the consistent increase of fuel prices, causing further financial strain for Irish motorists.

"While increases are modest, they demonstrate a continuous trend which strains household budgets already beset with expensive living expenses," AA Ireland said.

On the other hand, Electric Vehicle (EVs) costs remain stable this month, according to the review, and they provide a cost-effective option for the majority.

According to the latest data from AA Ireland, both petrol and diesel have gone up by €0.01 since May.

While the increase may seem minor, it adds to the growing financial strain on everyday commuters and long-distance drivers, the review says.

Several factors are driving these price hikes rising global oil costs, domestic tax policies, and the seasonal surge in summer travel.

On the upside, the cost of charging electric vehicles has stayed the same, offering a bit of financial relief and motivating more people to consider switching to greener transportation options.

Petrol prices in Ireland now average €1.77 per litre, a slight increase from €1.76 in May.

Diesel has also crept up, rising to €1.69 per litre from €1.68. Though it’s still a bit cheaper than petrol, the gap is narrowing.

For commercial drivers and hauliers, even small changes like these can have a big impact on day-to-day running costs.

Saving money on fuel tips from AA Ireland:

  • To help drivers cope with rising fuel costs, AA Ireland suggests a few easy habits that can make a real difference:
  • Make sure your tyres are properly inflated this reduces rolling resistance and helps your car use less fuel.
  • Drive smoothly. Avoid sudden braking or quick acceleration, as both can burn through fuel faster.
  • Clear out the boot. Carrying around unnecessary weight can impact your car’s efficiency.
  • Use air conditioning only when you really need it this can put extra load on the engine.
  • Plan your journeys to steer clear of traffic jams and unnecessary detours.

These small adjustments can help stretch your fuel further and soften the blow of rising prices at the pump.
