Michael Skubala hails Lincoln’s title-winning season after victory at Port Vale

Proud head coach Michael Skubala hailed Lincoln’s title-winning season as “iconic” and “amazing” after their 2-0 final-day win at Port Vale.
Ben House got the Imps off to the perfect start with a cool finish on nine minutes, before Rob Street doubled the visitors’ advantage four minutes into the second half.
The comfortable win means the brilliant Imps stretched their club-record unbeaten run to 29 games in the process.
“I have run out of words to say to the lads,” he said. “I’m not sure you can replicate this as a season, it is iconic, it is historical, it is amazing, there’s no other words about it.
“You could argue there is nothing on this game, but the players just do it again and roll out the ruthlessness and relentlessness each game.
“We keep pushing and playing our way. It is hard to single anyone out because there were some excellent performances, everyone was exceptional again.
“I’m just really proud of the group to go 29 games unbeaten, which is a record. We have kept breaking records this season.
“Everyone came in numbers to watch and you can see everyone is proud of this group of players like I am. What a group of players.
“I thought we started both halves well and went on the front foot. We came out of the blocks fast and aggressive. We got a bit scrappy which is sometimes natural. We reinforced some things at the break and started the second half really well.”
Port Vale manager Jon Brady says his side must recruit better attacking options next season.
“It was a typical end-of-season game and very flat, there was no intensity in it,” he said.
“It was our seventh game in 19 days and, as much as we wanted to build on the win at Stockport, you are playing a team who has got 103 points and are relentless at what they do.
“They go forward very quickly and keep it simple, they know what they are.
“We have gifted them both goals. We have had chances ourselves but that’s the story of our season. We don’t put them away and aren’t clinical enough.
“We have got to make sure we try and recruit the top line a lot better next season and it’s as simple as that.
“It is a team that defensively has been strong but when we get in the final third the composure to finish at times isn’t there. We have eight points in the last six games and our form since we came in would be 18th in the league. The gap was too much for us to catch.”
